Our Resident Z-daddy or simply the Zaddy, Larry Chen, hit the biggest Z event in the United States with his friend Rob Fuller from Z Car Blog in search of the best Datsun/Nissan Z he can find. 240z, 280z, 300zx, 350z, 370z and maybe even a brand new Nissan Z (400Z) might make an appearance. The 370z didn’t have a bad angle either my friends. You should be more objective. The front end of the new Z is perfect so stop whining and over rationalizing it. If there is one styling flaw it is the rear taillights. Nissan should have used an updated version of the original 240z taillights.
Nissan should have also kept analogue gauges. When the car is off and you get in for the first time what do you see? Two big dark blank empty boring screens.
Lastly, the 300zx looked like a cheap kit car and will never understand those who like it.
The 240z is and always will be the standard for the Z!

Great story about the 12 mile 280ZX. I think by now the air that is in it is not 40 years old. How many tires can hold air for 40 years without leaking?

I really like the ZX but the 79 and up Zs lost the sports car feel and went for the plush. Still a beautiful gem.I remember doing the PDI on both anniversary ZXs that Doug Williams brought in 83.

I love them things. If I had my choice of any of my past rides. The early 240 60 or 80 would be my choice. Iv had like 8. Granted some were so rusted out you could find your way home by the rust dust it left behind. But now Even one of them would make me happy. I have the skills and knowledge to do a Resto Mod. Damn I miss Niles. Anyone who’s had a Z will know why I named my F.I. 280 that. I actually used to beat the hell out of this guy who had a late 70s Vette. The road had a fairly good balance of straight and curve just not enough quite enough straight there at the end . But like I told him. When he would get mad and ask. How the Hell are you beating me. He had the Vette but just didn’t understand that Good tires. Knowing your cars braking ability a Independent Suspension and Horses are better than just Horses alone on a road course type race. I’d hear him behind me that straight axle suspension about to let go of the road. Hit the Apex Brake late come out hard and bring a pair. Was always my answer.Honestly another driver might of got me but the sound his rear tires made as he tried to close told me probably not. The poor man’s Ferrari.

Now Robs into vin numbers. I brought my 1970 Datsun vin number 1200 hundred and basically called it a pos.
That convertible was ugly. Probably runs good though

I love Nissan the Skyline the silvia but the Z has always had a special place in my hart, my dad had a 240Z when i was a boy and i loved the way it looked, to me it captured the essence of what a sports car should be. I hope and pray that the new 400Z be my first New car

I owned one of the 50 replica pace cars in 1972. The 50 were distributed to Southern California Datsun dealers to sell. I bought mine from Redlands Datsun. They painted the top for me in solid blue instead of having the white circle for no charge. Mine was sold without the stickers other than the painted Datsun on front fenders. I still have a couple of Polaroid pictures of mine. Unfortunately I traded it in around 1976. I have never seen one since.

Larry, those ZX T-top shades do not suction to the glass. The tops had two plastic bosses that the shade screws in to.
Fun fact: Those fuel gauges with the secondary needle for the last quarter tank was highly accurate. You could run it down to the last pint.

Not a Z32 fan and also an oem purist, but that prima car is incredible as far as execution.

Maybe I’m weird or I know to Americans my z32 is (a factory Tt slicktop) but the vg30dett isn’t that tight of a fit in there although I’m also a ex Vw technician so I’m kinda ruined
We enjoyed the trip down ‘Z’ memory lane to date. Personally I think the 2024 370z has lost that special drivers feel that makes all ‘Z’ owners very happy. Thanks for sharing.
