There is a point at which car building becomes a Disney movie, that has little to do with cars and more to do with dreams, or nightmares. These types of cars are in those genres.
These all look like they can survive the apocalypse
Some of these are cool as hell but they’re all cheesy too. And you can possibly see where you’re going so that’s pretty dumb.
I always LOVED rat rods because anyone can do it, and I didn’t know about the $3,000 build limit. That is a great idea and keeps it honest and out of hot rod territory altogether.
To me, Rat Rods are in an unlimited class, so no such thing as gone too far.

These cars shouldn’t have a top speed. I’ve had two built cars and I was too scared in both to ever find out. Not saying they were the fastest things ever, I am saying that somewhere in the neighborhood of 140 a 72′ Super Beetle stops liking you being alive after a coworker puts a rotary in it. It had a grind bar b/c it jumped a wheelie if you dumped it even up into 4th. Same went for a chevette with a 7 something liter. Thank my stars I bent the frame on it and that bad idea got pulled-out and dropped into an S-10 instead.
I only buy w rated tires now. Even for a stock sedan. Harmonics for rain and decent roads like e-ways.

@8:15 that Mad Mods Kustons is a 49 MERCURY, NOT a Ford Shoebox. Long oval grille, and long doors tell the tail. The body of a Shoebox could be modded to look like a Mercury, but it’s not, because it would have a Shoebox front fascia, which it doesn’t. It has a 49 Mercury fascia, meaning the long body is most likely a Mercury as well… @9:04 THAT IS a 49 Mercury front end, unmistakable.

ya know I like rat rods but not when they are scrapping the ground cause growing up in Michigan low ground clearance was a death sentence to any car that came down my pot hole ridden street even a couple of normal cars had their tires ripped off by 1 pot hole that got to be almost 2ft across and a foot deep. so every time I see a slammed car all I can think of it that thing is going to be detroyed if there’s a speed bump or they turn down a P.O.S. road.
These vehicles are what drive the young people of today to create comfortable, quiet, economic, efficient & even some good looking vehicles. These are examples of ingenuity & re-re-using old junk for as long as it can take the abuse. Sometimes they’re cool lookin’, but usually they’re just welded together garage garbage just to shock on-lookers. Products of too much time & junk on hands…
