All I usually tell people, is that if they have any sort of 04-06 Acura TL in the automatic (5AT) option, they need to meticulously maintain the transmission fluid. That means popping the hood and checking the auto trans fluid after super long 8-10+ drives or stuff like cross country trips. Racing the trans from dead stops will also put excessive wear and tear, especially if you’re not changing the ATF prematurely.

The harder you drive those defective automatics, the earlier you have to change the transmission fluid, so that the fluid does overheat itself, cook, and varnish over; which leaves you with burnt fluid that does a shitty job of lubricating. If you have crappy ATF, by the time you start noticing issues, you may have already done a certain amount of damage to the internals. AT damage is serious, where with these trans’, they usually require a full or partial trans rebuild to fully repair/fix. Of course, swapping in the same pre-facelift 3G (04-06) AT will just have it fail again, especially if it’s already another old, clapped out transmission/gearbox.

With the 07-08, the base and Type S both have upgraded AT’s. The 5AT is seemingly more beefy, but of course will still fail if you don’t take care of it. But that could be said about any automatic tbh.

The manual 6MT option from the beginning of the Acura CL, TL, Legend, etc. has always been superior to the early automatic, so there’s really no debate there. Any of the old 6MT’s might even be more fun to drive, compared to the newer 6MT’s. But they all do well with the same premature gear oil/manual trans fluid changing. Unless you’re launching 3-4k+ RPM’s from a dead stop/dig or doing shit like burnouts and donuts, or just smashing the gear synchronizers daily to the point where the gear oil overheats, yeah…. The car might break, but it definitely handles everything the AT models tend to not be able to.

i like the styling of the 4th gen

  3. marc30599 on February 19, 2023 at 11:49 am

Very good and thorough video on the Acura TL… I’m a big Acura fan myself and was looking at getting an 3rd Gen TL or 2nd Gen CL (preferably Type-S trim for either) as 2nd car for a commuter car as I recently bought a 2023 TLX Type-S and I don’t want to run the miles up like crazy on my new TLX.

Definitely can’t wait to see the TLX video!

This is so random but the beat that you are using in the background is the exact one me and my friend wrote a song for like 4 years ago in high school 😭

My brother got a gc8 and the person wanted 8 grand and we got it for 4 grand and it’s so fun

  9. Mario Enriquez on February 19, 2023 at 11:57 am

My dad owns the 05 tl and loves the hell out of it. But sadly it’s starting to give him a lot of problems after 350,000 miles and he just doesn’t have the energy to be fixing it like before. He’s thought of getting the new type s TLX but based on what benefits him the most is getting a Tesla with the first drop in price and tax credit

  10. calvin vo on February 19, 2023 at 11:58 am

My 06 Tl transmission just blew 🙁

  11. Christ Barri on February 19, 2023 at 12:05 pm

FYI the 2004-2006 Acura TL had the same amount of HP as the 2007-2008 TL base but the numbers are different because they used a different methode to measuring the engine HP. So basically the 2004-2006 TL had 258 hp as well

  12. KaboshkiWulf on February 19, 2023 at 12:06 pm

Currently have an 07 Type S right now, had her for a good 7 years and man. It has never let me down!

  17. Grant Buxton on February 19, 2023 at 12:09 pm

My buddy had a early Integra, it was so much fun

  18. Morgan van Humbeck on February 19, 2023 at 12:11 pm

The fourth gen TL is an absolute heartbreak because the SH-AWD is referencing the true torque vectoring capabilities of the car. It was one of the best AWD systems in the world, paired to a wicked V6 in a car that should, by all accounts, be amazing. It was so close to being damn near perfect but just… Wasn’t

  19. Pat Lood on February 19, 2023 at 12:12 pm

It was a great car for me that’s for sure. Had an 04′ for 11 1/2 years as a first car. Got decent gas mileage but yet was comfortable and stylish. The only grife it had was it was plagued with the automatic transmission going out which was a recall I believe. I miss ol’ TiLa!

  20. Ezra Haskard on February 19, 2023 at 12:12 pm

Had the option to pick up a type s manual for 2.5k+thousand or so on shipping, unfortunately didn’t have the money till next paycheck. Texted the guy again and he’d sold it 🙁

Never have I been more upset w my previous spending habits than then

  21. Nega Sumo on February 19, 2023 at 12:14 pm

Just got my 03 TL I’m in love with it

  22. Schnoz on February 19, 2023 at 12:14 pm

  23. Sebastian Acosta on February 19, 2023 at 12:15 pm

Can you do a video on the 7th gen accord please

  24. TJiizz on February 19, 2023 at 12:16 pm

Got a 02 Base Tl with the 3.2 as my first car, great engine, good speed, great stereo and comfy couldn’t ask for anything more.

  25. SquibLord on February 19, 2023 at 12:17 pm

This was just a really well done video overall. I love my 03 TL, transmission slip and all

  26. Theo on February 19, 2023 at 12:17 pm

love my acura. crashed my first car got the my current for graduating and i love it. has 260k+ miles and it’s slowly fading out since it is a 05 TL. Honestly on the fence of buying a used car or buying a more expensive TL with 90k miles or less and modding it.

  27. Just my opinion on February 19, 2023 at 12:18 pm

Your prices are a little off with used car prices these days. Any TL you find for $3k is going to be completely trashed with rip seats and the infamous cracked dash. Also since they make a perfect first car with their timeless design, teenagers have gotten a hold of most of them and trashed them even more. It’s becoming harder and harder to find a clean, stock, and unmolested 3rd gen TL.

  28. Ivan Palacios on February 19, 2023 at 12:18 pm

I’ve owned my 6 speed 2007 TL Type S for 9 years now, and I’m never letting it go. It’s never let me down, I’ve done cross country trips in it and always reliable and always dependable, until I fucked around and supercharged it. Had to rebuild the transmission but motor is holding strong. Currently working on a 800 whp motor build.

  29. Maitweny on February 19, 2023 at 12:20 pm

    Do the TLX video

  34. daniel rivera on February 19, 2023 at 12:27 pm

You forgot to mention that the 3rd gen have heated seats 👌🏾

  35. Liam Carignan on February 19, 2023 at 12:29 pm

The horsepower didn’t actually decrease, only the way it was rated.
    There was no actual change.

  43. Sam on February 19, 2023 at 12:37 pm

their automatic transmissions on the non type s go bad, i wouldnt buy one that isnt a type s or manual but those are at least 5.5 k for over 120k miles lol
