What is the future of the car industry?

The Duke of Richmond spoke to four influential people in the automotive industry to find out what the current state of the industry is and what the future holds for their brands. During the calls, all in the build up to Goodwood SpeedWeek presented by Mastercard, he spoke to Oliver Zipse, Chairman of BMW, Oliver Hoffman, CEO of Audi Sport, Jim Farley, now-CEO of Ford, and Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche.

    The future is dark.
Let’s hope the "base" Cayman is still around (and not ridiculously expensive for idiological reasons) in 2025 for me to buy it.

Every manufacturer seems to be hell bent on going electric, but lithium is a finite resource the bulk of which is to me found in China and South America.

At some point in time, petrol and diesel cars will be a distant memory like horse and cart.

So many pessimists who don’t want to accept the future. Electric cars are a blank slate and there are a ton ways the senses can be triggered. You will be able to let your car sound like whatever you want, it will have WAY more torque than any gasoline car, the center of gravity will be way lower improving performance, maintenance will be much much lower, you will likely be able to fuel your car yourself through solar panels and other green energy you can attach to your house. I love the Revival and will be sure to go again as soon as I can, but don’t love the past and engine sound enough to melt the earth.

We will all be driven around by electric self driving cars, the landscape will be dotted by massive open pit copper mines.

how are they going to generate the electricity. for all these cars. hopefully not nuclear because the waste is not so environmentally safe. for millions of years.

The future of the car market is in the past–literally. No matter how much power or torque they have, EVs just aren’t an engaging driving experience. Enthusiasts will increasingly turn to historic cars to get their thrills while smaller car manufacturers go bankrupt as governments force them to build cars that no one wants.

    What will happen with Lancia??

  19. JW on February 28, 2022 at 6:03 pm

New generation arenโ€™t interested in cars and government are becoming more dictatorships, cars will no longer be owned by most individuals, that will leave most people using ride share. With self driving cars the governmentโ€™s can finally crush our freedom by taking our cars.

The motor industry is broken and has been for years I3 joke of an electric car

  21. steve bucuris on February 28, 2022 at 6:06 pm

I had an electric Prius it would not go up hills in the snow it was useless.

  22. The Easel Rider on February 28, 2022 at 6:17 pm

I can absolutely promise that electric cars are not the future long-term.
It might be the answer now, but when you total up the environmental cost to build, maintain, and eventually dispose of an electric car, they will move away from them.
I don’t know if Hydrogen is the answer, but I know that has seen a lot more development in recent years by all the manufacturers.

  23. sina Kurdistani on February 28, 2022 at 6:17 pm

Happy to drive electric cars daily as long as I get to drive v8s and v12s on weekends

  24. Lance Dooley on February 28, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Gas and Diesel for life. Im not listening to the elites. Climate change is a hoax. EV’s and the UN Agenda 21 and 2030 can go * themselves.

    Sounds like BMW is dead.
