Get someone thats less bias. He’s the first person I’ve ever heard say that Western Star is a good truck. Proof is in the pudding, count how many Western Star’s you see out on the road.
Great info.
Mack used to be a good truck, damn near bomb proof but since Volvo took them over theyre nothing but a glorified Volvo living on their laurels. This Anthem is a plastic POS in my opinion and I wouldnt take one for free if I had to keep it. id trade it in on a 4900 with a DDEC15.
So heres one. Been driving for 2 years, have driven Kenworths old and new, newer peterbuilt, older westernstar, new new freightliner, but only have an option now of a new freightliner, international, or volvo, for OTR box maybe reefer. Best overall, for a company driver. trying to decide. Will be gone for 3 weeks at a time roughly.
Started out at 18..
. Are you
…washing ready tractor trailer Did it for shell for Union 76 for Texaco from mobile.
Whole Lotta other companies…. Drove 1950s 1960s 1970s… Everything from diamond Rio’s and eagles and God I forget all the crap.. international 4200 transtars 4300 transtars… Big red Astro 90….. Eventually I started working for CRST… Yeah…. Then Swift…
Western merchandise Express… Western Express.
. Hauled reefer… Certified freight logistics even in Santa Maria…. So you want to know what I like the best.
I bet you don’t…… Well because I’m not really interested in telling people what I think the best truck is and expecting them to think that I’m the great mind who knows it all.
.which you can always tell a new trucker by that…. I will tell you that I am still looking for it.
… I think the two best are caterpillar in Detroit Diesel…. I’ve been an instructor at three separate serious schools for trucking….TGA School of trucking which works with the state of California or at least was.
. Think they’re out of business now..
But the fact is I’m also a certified diesel mechanic Master mechanic….. Even have a Cummins being overhauled right now I’m doing it…..
For every one Detroit that I’ve had to overhaul I will give you 17 Cummins… Problems with cylinder walls ceiling…..people try to cover up war out engines where the cylinder walls are gone by claiming that commins smoke…… Wore out commins smoke……..and where I’ve seen old Detroit’s make it actually to 2 million miles starting up on quick start……. It’s rare to see a Cummins make it past 600,000… So maybe it’s a good thing that they’re reasonable on their overhauls….but I get parts for Detroit’s a hell of a lot cheaper than I do Cummins
.
..
..
you’re right because it involves all the details to complete the right truck and trailer
Unless it’s a Cabover it’s crap!
Which truck is the most comfortable driving?
#1 reliability of truck?
#2 operating cost of truck brand?
#3 go to sell value various brands have?
Numbers will tell the story.
I do like your video. So far the best because YOU DO NOT CARE. You gave me informations and I like that. Mack is with Volvo now or I am mistaking. HOURRA.
I’ve run everything but a kenworth and a volvo. Currently driving western star. Love it but… the seats are garbage
Isn’t Western Star built by Freightliner? My Freightliner is about to put me put of business. Put of the past four and a half months, it’s been on the road for three weeks, and in the shop the rest of the time.
ET Transport: Western Star is the best, Freightliner is the worst
Daimler AG: 🤫🤫🤫🤫🤫
If you want the Pacifically big bunk the western star is it cause it’s got a lot of room like the pacific?
very true opinion
this dude has NEVER BEEN IN VOLVO/FREIGHTLINER but he knows what his old buddy’s told him…he will not change his mind even if if volvo makes 1000000 miles without any problems. CAT IS AS DEAD AS YOUR BRAIN IS.
My Uncle used to drive a Diamond Reo back in the 50’s…oh yeah.
Falling star is shit…we have 2 in North Dakota absolutely junk. All others we have and use are Kenny’s and peters and theyre beast…I have never seen a Mack out here in the fields. Lol
Brave man! God bless you……..
Probably you didn’t have to pay for rebuild or fixing to Cummings engine
Mack is a volvo
Junk freightliner
W900 for everything.. it just sux that you cant get a Detroit for em new.
This video looks like it was shot in a prison lol
Cummins X15 with a Eaton Cummins 12 speed all day long!
We went with the hino with the Cummins we own a roll off company
Great video. I learned lot from you. Keep it up
Greetings, Dave. If you ever get the chance to read this, I hope we could chat a bit more about this or if anyone else reads this and would be willing to share there insights I would value that too. I’m currently a student at Roadmaster truck driving school in Bethlhem, Pa and after that I’ll be working for Werner Enterprise which is awesome. An learning a bit about the company and the trucks they have for their company drivers, which I’m going to be, specially with today’s fuel prices. I noticed Werner uses a few brands of semi-trucks and would love some insights as to which one out of the International, Freightline and the Peterbilt would be the best tool for the job. Its really upsetting a bit that the semi-trucks are not reviewed by either Car and Driver or Motor trend which is odd since they are still trucks. The jobs for Werner I would like to do is either Dry van or refer and flatbed maybe after a few years over the road I’d like to do the wide loads if Werner has a fleet that does that. So trucks out there and Dave what insights do you all got. Thank you to all the truckers out their stay safe out there. An never forget you all keep this awesome country rolling.
I’ve always strayed towards western stars because of the style and the way they are built always feel tougher, something I can beat on and still be reliable,
Drove many different trucks in the oil field western star was the worst buck board ride and couldn’t keep the damm hoods on them really weak hinges also had coolant leaks fan belts went more than once and the regen was problematic also.
Western star mack naaaaa
I’m biased towards kws with the cummins motor. I had a t680 with the cummins as my first company truck running flatbed; I beat the living shit out of it coast to coast and it soldiered on to hell and back time and time again. Ironically the truck I like the least is a freightliner. Still driving one to this day and they come across as cheap, low quality bargain trucks. To me, it’s the ideal candidate if your going to have a fleet of trucks and want to keep your costs as low as possible.
Freight liners are freight shakers..
Older Truckers May Disagree With you How ever For A new Trucker in the Feild, you Taught me So much @ET Transport
Whatever u do .. don’t get no max force engine
My first highway truck was a 97 western with a 525 cat and 18 speed. It was a rocket, especially since I was hauling a moving van.
VOLVO is the best
Scania 770 👌💪
Best truck for septic? Mostly driven on really rough backroads cottage roads🤣
All trucks have issues. Some engine and chassis combinations are worse than others, but they aren’t specific to a whole brand. If you’re in the market for a truck, research each unit individually to see what kind of issues are common and if that unit has had those issues repaired. With new medals, you are the Guinea pig out there. I wouldn’t suggest a brand new truck unless you already have a large enough fleet to afford to have a couple in the shop at all times, so for people watching this video, it is likely you’re a single truck operation, so avoid anything brand new.
Beyond what was addressed in the video, service availability is important. If you are OTR, Freightliner has the most service locations. You absolutely will need repairs no matter what you drive, so unless your a mechanic, have all the tools with you, and value your time turning wrenches above time hauling freight, then you should consider how to make sure you can get service quickly and get back on the road. If you run local or regional and live down the street from a Volvo service shop, that could make a Volvo the best choice because you can build a relationship there, get priority service, and know small issues can be addressed on home time.
TLDR; don’t listen to fake southern accent good ol boys. Use your brain and consider all the factors unique to your business.
"pacifically"
How’s Hino stack up?
My 2007 kenworth t800 with my cummins
To my European eye, I can say that the new Freightliner and Mack look the coolest. Peterbuilt also has a charm.
I go more by the history and culture of owning body of the company. I’m not big on VW so that’s a no go. I don’t know much about the company that owns Peterbilt and Kenworth. Volvo is alright I guess. Mercedes I prefer being that all seem to be not US based. I’m not one of those people that buy US just because it’s US. I buy the best Product I can afford. I figure that makes everyone better. Honda phycology, Performance First 🥇. Thanks for sharing. I don’t believe all of anything but you made some solid points. Keep up the good work. Peace 🕊️ with Justice ⚖️
I actually have a 4964EX 33ft wheel base. With a 150 inch ICT sleeper. It’s a toy for me. The rest of its days will be spent hauling my toy hauler and grandkids all over the country. I can tell you it was used for heavy haul. It’s double frame from front to rear. It’s definitely comfortable to drive the cab is more open then a couple of the others. After driving it for 10 hours I can get out of it and run around the block. Love my Western Star.
Hands down kenworth is my favorite my family has been driving for years and the kenworth brand is in our blood
Great attitude to have
Can you elaborate how the Mack Anthem was rushed?
Freight shaker and volvo are throw away junk
