I got my class A 17 years ago. Never used it.
I’m 54 and want to get hired as a driver… understanding I need some training to get up to snuff.

I wanted to go for my A but didn’t want to pay for the schooling, nor did I want to be in a contract to have paid training from a company. So I opted for my B and was able to get it through a public school system to be a school bus driver. Once I got it, a stayed for the remainder of the school year and joined Greyhound soon after. At first I was just going to use the company to get some more money saved up and pursue getting my class A and hopping in a truck. However, Greyhound has good pay, hourly pay, meal allowances, paid for lodging, benefits, 401k, and a union- in other words, it makes it very hard to want to leave, at least for me 😂. If you don’t mind people, it ain’t a bad job 🤷🏽♂️😂

I live in philly and I’m going to be 51. I quit My thankless job of 22 years in a warehouse, for a CEO & CFO that didn’t care about his employees. They demonstrated that when covid hit. So, after I left, I sat around looking for work and found a job on the graveyard shift making $24/hr but it didn’t work out. I decided, to go to cdl school. I’m getting my CDL Class B license. I should be taking my exam this week. I was actually looking at WM , Republic, JDM Concrete and a dump truck place.
I could’ve got my class A cause I was in a classroom and the yard, with all class A students but I opted for the B. I want to work Monday thru Friday maybe a few Saturdays here & there…and be home every night, get good benefits and still make a decent amount of money.
I might even get my tanker endorsement just to give me more options. But I hope I can pass the road trip! I’m a little nervous! I don’t want to stall out! I just want to pass so I can put out my resumes!👍🏼

Stay away from WASTE MANAGEMENT. Great pay BUT they are strick, they have a rule book size of a Bible. Break one rule your done. WM sees you as a number.
