The Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show 2023
The Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show 2023
Although the Gawsworth Hall classic car show is, I think, somewhere I’ve been to before (maybe 25 years ago!?), I had no recollection or idea of just what a stunning location it is to host a classic car event at. The main hall at Gawsworth dates to Tudor times, 1480 to be precise.
This car show is held in the undulating grounds surrounding Gawsworth Hall in Cheshire, home to immaculately-maintained lawns, hedges and flowerbeds, providing the perfect backdrop for the large number of classic cars that turned up.
In this video I film many of the classic and vintage cars that turned up for the day, many of which I’d not seen before. Later I go for a leisurely walk around, to familiarise myself with the layout of the displays and admire the cars in more detail, before standing close to the exit to see and hear many of the cars depart. The last thing I was expecting to be greeted by on our arrival was a Batmobile from the 1960s TV series!
Other highlights include a fantastic Invicta Black Prince, a car I remember seeing at shows some years back but not recently. There was a large and varied display put on by the local Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts’ Club, and a smaller but no less interesting collection of cars brought along by the Wolseley Register. Other sightings that also spring to mind include a great forward-control Commer pickup, Wolseley Six, Ford Model A pickup, two-stroke SAAB, a matching pair of Austin A35 pickups, a Piper GT, two Leyland Princesses from the 1970s, a stunning pre-war Triumph Dolomite, and a line of Jensens and Bristols including a rare Pininfarina-bodied car. By far the oldest car was a 1903 Darracq, footage of this veteran machine driving away is included in this video.
I’m really glad that we made it to the 2023 Gawsworth Hall classic car show and we’ll definitely endeavour to return again soon. The combination of some really great old cars and the wonderful surroundings made for a very memorable day, the Gawsworth Hall show is definitely one of my favourites now.

Hi π A very nice setting for a car show. Spring with the beautiful flower in bloom on the trees. I liked Batman on TV πΊ in the 1960s . So it was cool seeing the Batmobile there. Where was the caped crusader ?. I could imagine Harley dressed as Robin , and you as Batman. Only joking.
From the driver’s garb I surmised the weather to be same as ours. Upon checking it is about identical.
What a great show of some really interesting cars. Nice setting and I would love to take mine there next year.
Good job of mixing up the vantage points for different perspectives.
Some incredible cars here.

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Wolseley 1500. No idea why.
Nice coverage and I was there as well for my first time back at a car show for a few years. It seems like you got there very nice and early and then also stayed until the very end when cars were departing which were still there when I left π Been procrastinating putting my footage together but got a compilation of my walkaround but a lot more of the modern stuff. Nice location and usually I’m at the Tatton Park ones in the summer. I think there’s another couple shows this weekend coming at Gawsworth and Capesthorne
You mentioned the 70 mph limit on major motorways. We have the same but most cruise at 80 without intervention. That was one major reason I switched to a Transit five speed the fifth giving 0.8 overdrive so my 63 B900 series V 4/4 keeps up withought undue stress and then some should the road be straight and spirit tempoarily willing. At which point I recall that I put in the Gemmer steering box myself and did I check tire status recently?
Looking at the MGBs is interesting. Early cars didn’t come with side view mirrors, in fact most cars didn’t until the end of the 60’s. They were fitted by the dealer as an accessory, usually 2/3 way along the top of the front wing (or wings if you got two). Reason I noticed is that MGB door skins were quite prone to splitting vertically under the quarter light where door mounted mirrors could be.
Along with telescopic radio aerials on the wings, they just drilled holes in the bodywork with predictable results.
Wing mirrors were always a bit "difficult" unless you had something like a Mini.
I had a 69 Sunbeam Rapier similar to the one seen at 1:38:00, it was a great car to learn how to do body work on, it came loaded with rust at no cost!! It was imported into Canada by Chrysler, had a Penta Star on the passenger lower front wing.. Single SU, 1725cc, bought it for $500 from a friend and drove it home (500 miles) from his place, It was my first standard car and not my last English car. Sold it for $500 after three years,, it had a wood dash!!
That was an epic video πππ
So was the black prince. DOHC in a 1940s car…
Great to see these videos you make. Would have loved to be in the England to see a show or two and maybe even meet you there, keep the good work up!
Iβm thinking I read somewhere, that Batmobile was built by barris brothers , in 3 weeks
Amazing show!! So many cars. You asked if we have any favourites? Phew! So many… Really like the TR6, the Wolsey six land crab (had one myself) the Saab 99 in orange π the Interceptors. And I spotted a stunning looking yellow Mustang Mach 1. Loved the red Ginetta and Mini coopers.
Just 1 Humber?
Super episode. Lovely cars. Thanks for sharing π
i would like to see a Wolseley model like a Mini my aunt had one a white with blue roof
Wonderful show Richard . There were several favourites . That ’63 split rear screen Stingray ….WOW! That ’66 Porsche was probably a 912 , l did a very major repair /restoration in the early 1980’s on one . The GT6 was a conundrum , the mk2 is my favourite . The Jenson FF. It’s possible l repainted this car in the early ’90’s . If you’re a Ford man you may have thought it was finished in Aubergine . Jensen called it Cassis ! Well, and so many others, incredible !Thankyou.
When I was 19 I had a Wolsley 15/60 Vanden Plas, such luxury for a courting young man, hey?
Thank you for a great video. I hope these videos don’t detract from your enjoyment of the shows.

If I ever want to down size to a pokey little house, with a postage stamp of a garden, gawsworth hall would be ideal!π€£π€£π€£ππ¬π§ps always try to get a cortina mk1 on film, for the big fan of the channel, Mr Biddle.π

Super video, Richard. The best show/meet on your channel so far, IMO. Such a variety of cars and so many not seen before. Nice to see the cars leaving the event and to hear the different engine notes.
Just outstanding as ever Rick , as you say in a beautiful setting , you manage to include so much detail and perspective of so many.I could gladly take a few home, the superbly elegant Rolls 20/25hp Sedanca Coupe , most likely with coachwork by Gurney Nutting at 3.32, JJ 5549, the gorgeous Sunbeam ( Talbot ) Alpine, but probably the most incredible and rare , the Invicta Black Prince. Then again , wouldn’t say no to the ‘ 65 Velocette Venom Thruxton- wow that exhaust note !.
Fantastic video and you really know your cars!!
He seems to only highlight British cars and just skirts past foreign makes apart from porche he looks at these old Brit cars that some are too old and should be in a museum?&
I’m still amazed at just how many cars turn up at these shows. Fantastic.
I believe that taxation HP. Formula favored long stroke (oversquare) engines and therefore grill shape.
Thereβs a man in Iowa [ I believe], who recreates the Bat Mobile under License, for sale.
He made the news not too long ago when a client [ who missed some payments- and was pushed back in line], got mad, and pulled a βfavor β, from his local California police chief, and had a team of investigators raid his place. Something of a scandal, and the builder was CLEARED of ALL charges, which led to investigation of the California police chief and his.

once again a wonderful video, thank you.
Do these shows happen all year long or is there a "Season"?
It must have something to do with how much interest car clubs associate with these venues. I go tom a few show and rarely see this number of cars
cheer’s mate enjoyed it thoroughly”.
and still not a Puma in sight ? ….
Another Great video , Thank you π€©ππΌ
Hi Rick I have never seen so many startling cars even on your videos. The Black Prince was one of my favourites however I was spoilt for choice what a fabulous venue. Thank you for a fabulous day out.
I meant undersquare.
great video
Excellent video of a wide selection of Classic cars for all tastes on show here. The Dodge Charger exiting at the end was an absolute beast of a car. With the Ford Mustang Fastback also turning up, they reminded me of that brilliant car chase from Bullit with Steve Mc Queen.
Thanks for doing this one, Rick. Amazing selection of cars on a not so nice day. My favorite was the Invicta Black Prince – it is so elegant and to me looks very custom with the sleek body and no hint of running boards. The only thing to have made it better would be to take a couple inches out of the top height. I know that cars of that era needed "hat room", but lower would have been better for me. There were so many cars you showed that I will never see in person and I thank you for that. The blue early Triumph with the three position drop head was just spectacular. I can’t imagine rechroming that grille and getting it so straight!
Great vid, thank you. But……..why do we hardly ever see any Gilbern Genies or Invaders ?
The best yet; thanks.
1:15:40 A friend of mine I met last year through a video game online actually showed me that Corvette Pace Car was apparently at a classic car sale over in the states a year ago perhaps and so someone must’ve imported it not that long ago. Pretty cool story
That was truly awesome
, So many cars that I would take home. Thank you another great video.
Another great video. (If you make it to the US, please don’t tell any car guy that his car is "fruity". LOL)
Cool video! π
Great show !!
It never ceases to maze me just how many cars show up o these events. There must be literally 1,000”s of garages in the UK holding these cars and an absolute fortune spent on an annual basis keeping them on the road. True dedication. Between your good self and Harley you manage to monopolise my Sunday mornings. Jag 420G simply magnificent I owned a 1963 Humber Super Snipe in the early 70’s a terrific car in many ways. I actually sold it for a small profit.
what a great day sir
