The future of the car industry

The future of the car industry

Ride-hailing apps such as Uber, Ola and Lyft are not only challenging taxi drivers around the world, they are also disrupting the car industry as a whole as people prefer to hail a ride than buy their own set of wheels.

The Disrupters is an original series exploring how major industries—from music and cars to hospitality—are currently being disrupted by the latest wave of digital innovation. As well as enjoying privileged access into the world biggest tech start ups we show how industry giants respond when faced with such tech-driven innovation. Do they adapt—or die?

The name of Ola’s founder and chief executive officer is spelled incorrectly in this video. It should be Bhavish Aggarwal. We are sorry for the error. June 1st, 2016.

Uber is just taking advantage of all the drivers by making them slaves of Uber tech ! Till the department of transportation will approve Uber’s autonomous vehicles then Uber gonna. Throw all the driver to the curd !!!

Fast forward to December 2019, and Ford is struggling – what went wrong?

  20. kekekekekeooo on March 15, 2023 at 3:44 pm

Why dont try a 200 year old technology that is almost free compared to these examples: Bikes and compact urban planning. But i guess it is not any money for the big companies in that vision for the future

  21. Guera Loca on March 15, 2023 at 3:46 pm

Ford should have been researching societal trends for decades. They’re very late to the game.

  22. Michael Anderson on March 15, 2023 at 3:48 pm

  24. SMC01ful on March 15, 2023 at 3:51 pm

Oh God, I was driving home near dusk the other night and I seriously thought to myself the idea of driverless cars will be so much safer. First, you have to adjust your eyes to different light settings, I had to angle my head to deflect the glare from oncoming car lights, check my rear mirror, check my blindspots while changing lanes, slow down on the ridiculously dangerous curbs we have on Kiwi roads. This was while driving an automatic. You have even more going on with a manual. I think a society with highly skilled human drivers, if you prefer to use them, or using self driving cars if you like would be superb.

The cab companies need to adapt and get an app

  26. INFINITE BEING on March 15, 2023 at 3:54 pm

It is not the survival of the fittest. Rather survival of the adopter. On who who can adopt to the changing environment can only survive.

  27. WICKEDLEE LOOPY on March 15, 2023 at 3:54 pm

Anyone can design an app to service the need of travellers at the expence of the drivers. There Inlies the problem. If you were asked to work for a pay cut , would you…. now imagine being sacked & finding same new job for less money. Thats essentially the same as ola

  28. Dor Chib on March 15, 2023 at 3:55 pm

Y we can drive cars today? Perhaps, because we have well made roads. Most of the cars today off road are useless. I suspect that we need to update our roads to fit the self driving concept. Then making self driving cars will be much more simple. If the road provides the energy – you don’t have to carry batteries, if the road provides all sorts of sensors and informs the car about all objects – you don’t need to carry so many computers with u.

This is why ford is considering stop making small passenger cars. The only demand left will be commercial vehicles. Before smart phones , we would call our friends & family notifying them , I’m coming over. Now days online group chat iliminate that need with smart phones.

VW is trying to sell at least one of their Diesel SUVs to every adult Indian. If they succeed the resources of our planet will get depleted within days. So I hope VW can be stopped from peddling their SUVs.

  46. Andrea Mai on March 15, 2023 at 4:18 pm

My problem with these “disruptive” techno, ogres is the exploitation of independent service providers for profit. This turns the technology companies into the slave drivers of society, while they do not invest in the service providers.

These pitches make me sick. Do you eat food just for the nutrients? Why then you impose the idea that driving is just about reaching from point A to point B?
