The Connected Car: Auto industry challenges and opportunities
In this first episode of the Connected Car series, Qualcomm SVP and President of Qualcomm Europe Enrico Salvatori speaks with automotive analyst Benedict Evans. The two discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the automotive industry, as it undergoes a digital transformation.
Cars are evolving, and consumers are driving demand for efficiency, safety, new experiences, and services powered by greater intelligence and connectivity, specifically 5G connectivity. Digitalization is transforming the auto industry. This change is affecting the ways cars are manufactured, the supply chain, the partners automakers are working with, and even the skills and components needed to create cars.
At Qualcomm, we’re accelerating the digital transformation of the automotive industry by helping auto manufactures produce better, smarter cars. We’ve developed comprehensive solutions for ubiquitous connectivity in and around the vehicle to support enhanced experiences, from safety to infotainment. We’re bringing high-speed, low-latency 5G connectivity to the car, making it one more connected device in our digital world.
Enrico also discussed how 5G connectivity is leading the path to autonomy and not just in terms of autonomous vehicles. Broad automotive industry trends of electrification, mobility as a service, and autonomous driving are taking advantage of new 5G connectivity solutions. Connectivity is enabling new applications and services, and Qualcomm technologies are helping cars securely connect to each other, the cloud, and the environment.
