H2Oi is a car show that has a difficult history. From its origins nearly 20 years ago, it ended a few years ago only for a weekend meet to take it over in the same city. Last year the weekend event ended in an unfortunate situation. So what happened? Who’s to blame? Is H2OI the same now as it was in 2015? Is the legislation that’s going to pass fair or is it overreaching? I’d love to hear your thoughts below!

We are screwed as a society when you loose respect for law enforcement.
You know how you get the community to embrace you. Do things for the community, not just car guys. When you become a staple of the community, it’s a lot harder to dismiss you for some bad driving. Then again, be responsible as well. You’re in something that can easily kill people.
These idiots are really ruining the car culture and basically killing the culture for future generations. The fact that they’re prohibiting motorsports on PRIVATE PROPERTY is an example of how their ruining it and the entire car community’s reputation.
This is why modern cultures are fucked back in the 70s in the 80s you could do this it was fun people were actually able to recent party now all people give a shit about his health and safety

It’s happening everywhere the same people are ruining it for everyone, my friends and I would hang out in a parking lot and show off (permission from the owner) and we all got arrested cause another group shut down a highway and did donuts

I feel sorry for your generation. I have 2 kids your age and I tell them all the time that a high percentage of their generation are worthless and feel they are entitled. I feel so sorry for the small amount of good kids that are your age. I know as a kid if I ever spoke to a cop or an adult how these kids do, my father would kick my ass.

Honestly, this is more and more why I think cars shouldn’t be necessary for big cities, I’m so over people just getting into car culture and driving like idiots, a lot of people, even those who are into cars seriously, just simply are not good at driving and drive way beyond their means. Having a car needs to be something you do only if you really really need one, or if you’re doing it as a hobby. If the states worked like that I feel like it’d get a bit better.
I never got to any show or meets anymore. It’s too toxic or cliquish nowadays. I rather go to the track and talk and be around the track. Soon everything is going to be illegal -_-
I’m born and raised in MD and have lived in OCMD full time since 2008. Growing up it was a holiday we would look forward to it and take off work until 2016. Shit heads made it worse and worse every year and fuked it up for everyone else. I’m talking burnouts everywhere, gnarly fireworks, fights, stabbings and accidents galore literally made it like a war zone. At this point if you have a lowered or louder car or even STICKERS on your car you’re risking a problem with cops.
Soooo yeah nowww locals that love modified cars can’t even enjoy what we have in the city we live.

Dude just don’t bitch. If your driving reckless, your ruining it! Do an event that is on private property like a concert that requires you to provide security and staff.
The minute the bad behavior starts the individuals should have their cars impounded and be banned from further events as well as face any possible criminal charges.
I went to a takeover when I was in my teens (to watch, not drive), I was standing on a hill watching them do donuts in a culdesac, one dude was sitting in an open trunk of a car and he pulled a gun out and started waving and pointing it at the crowd while they were doing donuts. Never went to one again. The next year I heard the leader of the group doing those takeovers got killed in some sort of gang related activity.
I’ve been a gear head all my life, raced MX/SX and sportscars since I was 14. When I saw the drift culture gaining strength in the car community I thought " not my cup of tea but as long as people are turning wrenches and continuing to enjoy cars then to each his own.
When I saw this same culture doing street takeovers I wanted ( still do ) every one of them locked up because I know where it’s going.
In my opinion they are nothing but a bunch of lawless little bastards that need their cars confiscated for good and jailed.
You little punks don’t get to take over our streets. That goes for you knuckleheads on bikes too.

I blame youtube culture more then anything, channels like 1320 video, and real street that went to the street races and filmed etc. That really fuel the complete idiots, it made it seem like it was acceptable behavior. I knew even then it was messed up in immature to go out street racing and act like you owned the streets, knew nothing good would come out of it.
The ridiculous thing is these dumbass kids/overgrown children, only get more mad and act out more, the more they’re shunned/forced out. They do it to themselves. And make it worse for everyone. YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM! YOU ARE AN IDIOT.
Where I’m from it’s so bad, the most MINOR modifications will get your car impounded. Something as minor as LEGAL tint or different colour body panels.. Cops basically have free range to do whatever they like, regardless if it’s legal or not.
And it’s 100% all these dumbass morons fault. They live solely for this ridiculous none tangible thing called clout. It’s cancer, and I despise every single one of them.
I can’t drive my stagea ANYWHERE, the amount of bodywork modifying (front end conversion) I’ve done to it, I can no longer drive it on the road without fear of loosing my dream.
I haven’t so much as a speeding ticket, or parking ticket. But I’m instantly a GOON in my modified car.
The greatest car show/cruise is Woodward dream cruise. Last year was the first time I saw anything worse than burnouts and racing. Cops are always assholes there so if you’re smart, you’re fine
You should have seen the car culture of the 1960s. There were few scumbags. The "Show and Shine" was created to give people a chance to show off their cars and bikes, and anyone who abused the chance found themselves run off, rapidly. Southern California cops would let organizers know if there were cars/drivers that they were looking for, and they got a lot of cooperation, because legitimate car people don’t like the scumbags either.
The clown shows are a direct result of the dumbing down of Americans, and the rise of the Privileged Brat. The way to counter them is to simply give the scumbags fair trials, give them serious jail time, and issue cash fines the value of the car . . .then have very public Crush-A-Thons, where their cars are destroyed, while the scumbags watch, whining and sobbing, as the rams give their cars the Death Hug. A few close-ups of these scumbags coming apart as whey watch will be a big discouragement for the next idiots who want to pull these stunts.

In LA, the best car meets are over by 10am…..all these sideshow losers won’t get up until noon so it works out.
It’s honestly a shame. In SLC Utah a lot of our local meets and cruises have shut down aside from some of the larger ones, which themselves are having an even bigger struggle every season with people doing burnouts and illegal things at their meets.

First off that was a Street take over that is illegal these freaks with muscle car’s in most cases are stolen when in car chase’s. AT regular car meets that are mostly sponsored by some business or or car enthusiast those car’s are parked every one displays their car. Then if there is any kinda exhibition’s Mostly on a place like airport dragstrip or is sponsored by a city official. With a permit issued! These freaks have no laws in Street take overs people get hurt arrested and it’s street racing that causes the most damage besides taking over a street corner and beat their cars. I can’t wait until karma kicks everyone’s Arse. That thinks it’s okay to stop traffic for a few hours And beat car’s.

Car shows, meets, takeovers and sideshows are all very different cultures. Do not lump them together.

go check out ontario’s laws. Private property doesnt mean shit you can get stunt driving charges on private property… The process for turning private property into a racetrack for temporary playtime is expensive and time consuming (permissions and inspections surrounding safety)

Mob mentality goes both ways. Here in Thailand if someone at a show acts up. Everyone assists him to the local hospital and his car mysteriously disappears. Lets say we don’t have these problems once word spreads.
This is issue we had last weekend in Bristol Pa 3/12/23 in a parking lot. We are a group of VW enthusiasts, a kid in a honda and some charger ruined it for all of us. #entouragegarage hosted event for dubs. 50 cars no issues, 2 AHOLE’s. The attendees were of all ages 18 – 70’s. ahhhhhhhhh!!!!!
I gotta ticket for going faster than a police car. I after that never had the need for well from what The state trooper said, she said My car goes 155mph and I couldn’t catch you. Mind you I wasn’t on a freeway! Wasn’t street racing. Just loved to go very fast. It’ was a little front wheel drive Chevy Beretta! It’was the fastest car I ever owned. Ever, I beat Porsche and older muscle car’s with it. In freeway race’s. Glad I sold it. Because I knew that I would get more tickets. It was for two grand. My 11 yr old nephew, talked the police officer into not taking me to jail. Long story.
There is a solid car culture in the US.. Finding a lot in the middle of a populated area with the crowd spilling over on the streets is just asking for this type of problem. To control this type of problem a venue should have a proper risk and logistics assessment done at the planning stage along with registration for the event. You cant control what you cant measure. I don’t blame municipalities for fighting back with draconian measures.
a couple of points 1) when H2Oi the show went to NJ it went to Atlantic City not wildwood. 2) becareful H2Oi is registered name and is subject to legal action if used wrong. Even Ocean City stopped using the name. They called it the Pop-up Rally.
It’s def the younger generation causing this, it’s like their IQ has gone down over the years and just act on emotions. Like just go back to car scene 2013 for example, was wayyy different and was more about the cars there and the builds, not doing these ratchet donuts and takeovers in your shitboxes. It’s like the maturity level went way down
