MG the initials of Morris Garages is an English automotive marque registered by the now defunct MG Car Company Limited a British sports car manufacturer begun in the 1920 as a sales promotion sideline within W R Morris’s Oxford city retail sales and service business by the business’s manager Cecil Kimber. Best known for its two-seat open sports cars MG also produced saloons and coupés. Kimber was an employee of William Morris.

My father drove an MGA in college. He later got a Mustang because of reliability and ease of repair issues. I later bought a 1979 Midget as my first car in high school. I dont regret it. However, continious carb problems put it in the shop as much as it was on the road. I sold it to an MG mech for a little more than I paid. My next car was a Datsun 280 Z, fuelie, no carbs to worry about. Sorry, its all Japanese from here out. The Miata is the new MG.
Bloody Hell !!! The Yank regulations of Emissions; Bumpers; FMVSS Crash requirements & Crumple Zones; plus Horse Power lust….DID NOT ALLOW FOR A SIMPLE, FUN, LOW COST, 4-BANGER, TWO SEATER ANYMORE. 1965 was roughly the Peak of the post WWII Baby Boomers. They were soon aging out to something else. Gas way more expensive. British labor was striking for more & more pay. Hence these cars went the way of the Do-Do bird. WHICH IS JUST A LOW DOWN DIRTY SHAME.

I own a 1976 MG Midget 1500CC, and it is the most fun I’ve ever had driving. It’s not for an amateur driver, by any means, but if you enjoy driving, it is the most pleasurable experience I’ve ever had (and a song I play every long trip is "My Church")

I owned a new MGA Mk II right off the showroom floor, broke it in properly (took an entire afternoon of accelerating from standing, at 2/3 to 3/4 throttle, brake slowly to a stop, etc.) and got great gas mileage, plus drove it across the top of Wisconsin at 70-110MPH (no cops anywhere on the route), ran like a champ. That model came with a front anti-sway bar and oil cooler as standard–my friend, the salesman, said, "This car is built with racing in mind, literally built with a bold on a bolt." Took it in for servicing in January of ’63, sat in the Tartan Red MGB on the showroom floor, cranked the driver’s window up and down, put the seat back all the way and found I couldn’t put the clutch pedal all the way down—and ordered a powder blue one with disk wheels. They had trouble getting it, so I bought the showroom model, which had 72-spoke, triple-laced wire wheels, and loved it for three years, until I traded it in on an MG 1100 sedan (front-wheel drive—with a wonderful heater!) and a ’61 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I, to go racing. I miss both MGs all the time…
