Looking for a used Jeep Grand Cherokee? – https://carsforsale.com.au/jeep/grand-cherokee
Some praise the Jeep Grand Cherokee for being a comfortable and powerful large SUV, that’s also hugely capable off-road. But some can’t get past the fact that the Grand Cherokee, and Jeeps in general, have a high chance of going ‘bang!’.
So we decided to finally review one to see whether it’s worth looking at on the used market!

At ReDriven, we’ll be taking you through the pros and cons of a huge range of used cars to see how well they’re going now that they’re a few years old, have thousands of kilometres on the clock, and are coming toward the end of their warranty, or maybe don’t have one at all.
Plus, thanks to our resident mechanic, Jim, you’ll find out what commonly goes wrong with them and what might need to be fixed.
Most importantly, we want to make ReDriven a voice for the most in-the-know used car experts there are…you guys.. See, you’re the ones that actually buy, live with, love and sometimes unfortunately hate the cars we’ll be reviewing.
So we want to hear your thoughts. Hit us up in the comments, or on Instagram and Facebook.
We’d love nothing more than for you to give us as much feedback as possible, so we can make this channel the best it can be.

The answer to the question at the tile is Land Rover.
Ford explorers suck
2014 grand jeep best car we have owned , we normally buy a new a car every couple years , we still have the jeep
i own a 2004 jeep granded cherokee with a 4.0 or the inline 6 cycldender it just hit over 200k miles on it and now im not sure i should put anymore money into it after puting 20k just infront end do to the death wooble but it’s only rear wheel drive only not a 4×4 now im wondering if i should put more into the eng now it’s hit the 200 miles or sell it as it is and look for a newer vhc.
I’ve owned 4 jeeps. 2012 GC is best quality yet; runs great 110,000 miles on 5.7L hemi that is a blast to drive. YOu’re either a jeep person or not. THey only shine once they’re off road or in mud, snow, preferrably all at once.
I get tired of hearing how bad jeep are never the fords that are blowing motors or the Nissan’s that blow tubos and crack heads and put rods through the side or cruisers that drop alternators every second week out bush but that’s different they aren’t a jeep
Toyota keeps its value because there is a misguided reputation. Toyota gets its reliability based on the old Hilux. And somehow that one vehicles reliability has spread for the whole brand. I’m not saying they make unreliable vehicles, but all of my in-laws drive Toyota and they have issues all the time across 6 or 7 models.
Not to mention TFL just did a basic hill trail climb they do with all AWD/4×4 vehicles, and the Tacoma blew the front diff without being worked out.
Also with these cars you have to look out for the dashboard wrinkles
2014 limited 110k miles. No issues rides smooth .
This guys an idiot.
I wouldn’t buy a Grand Cherokee!
Would have been good to separate the 5 speed from the 8 speed and also go through the v6 diesel vs the v6 petrol and v8 petrol issues separately.
We have the v6 diesel and its been great, only issue was a fuel injector going at 220,000ks
I am 5 minutes into this video and I know why jeep grand Cherokee has no resale value…it’s way to many variations for used buyers to try to learn about to make an educated decision. Even if you knew the cars themselves how would you compare one to another and evaluate prices online between let’s say 10 Cherokees….no way, it would have to be a screaming deal before I felt ok with it.
I’m on my 3rd–all bought used from my dad. The first two went over 200,000 miles with only a single major repair. My 2001 needed a trans rebuild around 210K, and the 2007 needed a rebuilt rear diff at 185K. My wife only drives Honda Odysseys, and I spend far more time wrenching under them than I do with my Jeeps.
I know that the stats aren’t a lie, but it still baffles me when Jeep reliability data are so poor. I’m from a family of Jeep drivers and none of us have ever owned a lemon. Is everyone else just abusing and failing to maintain theirs?
I’m looking to buy a 2014 with 59k is there anything I should look out for
I’m selling my 2006 Limited CRD QD2 150,000k and buying a 2014 Overland 5.7 QD2 22,000k.
Wtf u talking about crd it’s V6 from Mercedes…
Busted arse grand cherokees on backs of trucks all around Australia with badly out of pocket grey nomads having to get their vans back home. Disgracefull.
2016 JGC Overland Eco-Diesel – Completely Loaded. Currently 138,000 Miles on it. Other than a new transmission at 128,000 Miles, replaced under warranty, the jeep has been flawless. It is in the shop for the High Pressure Fuel Pump recall and they gave me a 2020 Cherokee as a loaner. Such a world of difference. I cannot wait to get my luxurious Grand Cherokee back. I want to keep it until 200,000 miles.
I don’t own one..but I live rural and drive long distance all the time..I’ve never seen one broken down..but I have seen alot of Toyotas with their bonnets up.
I have 2014 Limited 3.0l diesel GC; bought it used from a dealer – all checks passed .. and then! Head-gasket failed in the first two weeks. Coolant leaks a week later. AC failure a fortnight later. Engine-mount cracks a month later. This is while used for light-duty on sealed roads.
A year later with all repairs done, some under warranty it’s running beautifully.
Turns out the local dealer (Nissan) have ‘reputation’ for the used cars they sell.
I’ll stay away from them before I’ll stay away from another Jeep.
Stupid video , jeep is the best suv out there
im pretty sure mercedes or bmw is one of the worst suv’s you can buy. the hemi engines in these are pretty decent. i would not buy one of these with a diesel. another thing not mentioned is transfer cases. the main reason why these go bad though is because when replacing tires you should always buy all 4 never anything otherwise. the ones wit air suspension as well. i mean air suspension what else needs to be said there haha. my buddy bought a 18 summit w 64k and a 5.7 hemi and its a great jeep. i own a 12 summit w 130k and a hemi and its fine. these are not big by any means imo. i prefer the hemi as i like a vehicle w some balls. some hemis did have trouble w dropping valves though. the interiors in them are very nice i will say that. especially the overlands i really like them. i wouldnt hesitate to buy another one thats for sure. the 4×4 system in them is damn good as well. if looking to buy one though stick w gas engines. youll be much better off in the long run by far. these have issues just like every other vehicle. however, a hemi can last you a really really long time.
When I was a kid 30+ years ago, Grand Cherokees were EVERYWHERE. New ones, old ones, everywhere, all the time. Not anymore. There is a lot more competition and Jeep has become much more of a gamble on quality and reliability.
Nice looking car.
Which engine failed 2x while towing?
What load was the person towing and was it properly towing?
Something to consider re engine issues. The 3.6l Pentastar is the most sold engine (at least in North America). It’s in every Chrysler made vehicle. And therefore when another brand sells 100,000 engines with 10 major issue specimens people say it’s reliable.
But people will say the 3.6 sucks because it has 100 bad specimens. But they’ve sold 1,000,000 of the engine. So it’s the same defect ratio.
Click bait…we just bought our fourth GC. Very few issues. Jeeps are unique among all those who have come behind and copied them. Stelantis has only made them better.
Love my 2021
haha, just here for the what goes wrong on these lemons
No way, I really wanted to buy this car, I have made an unfortunate decision to buy MG HS few months ago, and it is a disaster
Thank you for a review, will have a look for other SUV then
I like the idea of owning this car but not sure if I can allow myself to trust an Italian made engine
Oil cooler is rubbish will leak replace it with full aluminium dorman product. Globes replace it with leds or its$ 375… a globe!!!. Aircon condensor. Is made from sintered metal. Will die after 8 years. Good aftermarket dont get oem again. Transfer control module dies. It has cvs… expect potential cv related issue ( nothing to do with jeep just general cv things).
I have had 2 of them neither of them gave me a single problem, serviced them and that was it, apart from changing tyres. Not sure where all the hate comes from they are still one of the best looking SUV’s actually miss the last we had and wish we hadn’t of sold it.
2014 was the last year of dual exhaust on laredo and limited standard
It’s a Jeep thing
Avoid at all costs
No such thing as a bad car. Just bad owners
I have a two thousand eighteen grand cherokee trail hawk diesel. I recently put in a bank’s derringer tuner & throttle controller. I feel like I have a new car now. It is lightning fast
How do yall own a car for 8,9 yrs with only 80 90k
Had a 2004 loved it great car I wanted something newer I shoul have kept it AMC motor
The only reason they love them so much is cause they can’t afford a Honda or Toyota
2014 Grand Cherokee here, 83k miles. So far: Replaced oil pressure sensor (went bad). Replaced oil cooler assembly (leaking). Replaced rocker arms, lifters and one cam (bad rocker arm). Replaced thermostat (stuck open). Replaced radiator (leaking). Replaced driver’s side motor mount (leaking). Other than that it’s been perfectly reliable.
Shitbox.
I have a 3.6 2014 gc limited with 130k just give its oil changes on time. Doing other regular service has kept me from any really major issues. My pops has the same year eco diesel with 90k, again doing regular service has prevented any maajor issues.
My wife drive 2013 5.7 overland , i drive 2017 SRT , before we have 2012 5.7 Laredo … I buy 10+ jeep’s from canadian auctions for random friends – this tning is awesome for this money 😉
I am currently driving a 2016 Grand Cherokee that has been flawless for 8 years. And Before that I drove a 2006 Commander for 10 years with only needing a water pump. And it was well over 100,000 when I had to replace the water pump. And before that I owned a 1998 Grand Cherokee for 5 years before someone ran into it.
I love my 2014 Overland. This is BS. I’ve had 3 and I loved every one of them. My Overland is the best vehicle I’ve ever owned and I’m 76
I am watching this after a year and didn’t see an answer in the comments regarding your question.
Yes, Toyota Prado is definitely worth the extra 20K. I will go for a Prado over the Grand Cherokee any time.
My favourite auto car review channel! Thanx for effort!
Buy them at auction…not making a monthly payment helps ease the pain of dumping money into them lol
