$180 for a set of front brake pads is already a rip off before you start. In Europe, most brake pad sets are around $30 give or take for an average car. A hanyman can fit them in a little over an hour, and a garage should take about 20 mins per side. Ignorance costs, bigtime!

If any customer tried to negotiate for a better price with me, the price went up. You bring your car to me because you don’t have the skills to fix it. I don’t negotiate. Do you want your boss to negotiate your paycheck with you every pay period? Exactly. I don’t negotiate on what I’m owed.
I am convinced that auto mechanics and veterinarians are the worst crooks on the planet. I brought my car for service regarding a TPS and FOB issue. I was charged $2500. Mechanics get paid by the work they do. So for an oil change they make about 10 dollars. If they suggest that you need a new oxygen senson (as in my case) they get about 1000 dollars. The dealership gets more than half. They are all in cohoots. The dealership will claim that he goes by what the mechanic says, since they are "trained mechanics".
Services are not free… what’s the matter with you. HAVE AutoMD FIX YOUR CAR!! YOU’RE NOT REAL REPORTERS
The TV people don’t have any knowledge about auto repair but one mechanic was clearly overcharging them. Let’s be fair.
The TV people don’t know that brake jobs are quoted with and without rotor replacement/ resurfacing. The anchors have zero knowledge on any topic. They don’t even have a journalism degree.

Why are you just targeting small shops how about dealership like BMW dealerships they do the same thing or even worst because they charge for work they don’t do. And I am talking about 9,k to even 22k
If you have to take your vehicle in for a transmission service, Engrave your parts. They will pull your good parts and replace them old junk yard parts.
I took my van in to replace fuel…97 Plymouth voyager… 380.00 ha, i went to pick it up he said i have a very bad coolant leak..he said he thinks it is the water. Before I took it in it had no coolant issues whatsoever, i don’t believe in coincidence.. the water pump is still circulating….can a bad water pump still circulate b4 it stops working? I need to check the bolts. I know he was lying..

the morals of people is bad there is no pride in their work or name the book time on some of the repairs is just a scam and the way the dealors are making the cars so parts fail they get 5 to 20 hrs labor and to sell you parts at 150% mark up brake pads cost 30 bucks and i buy the lifetime pads and as soon as i have changed them i return them for a new set that way you have a replacement set on your shelf

I need an 02 sensor I was quoted 160pound UK parts and labour is that good or bad
on some vehicles particularly if the rims have wide enough gaps you can reach the outer brake pads with a gauge and measure the life. the same process can be applied to the inner pad by going from behind. second tech did nothing wrong
12 years later and there are still some auto shops operating this way (recommending services you do not need at all). However with online reviews sites, it has helped tamp down on it a bit.

learned that 20 years… So I decided to learn to fix cars early in the game. Those car dealers are the worst! paid $80 to diagnose a problem and they claimed that nothing is wrong. I got so mad and didn’t leave the lot taking to the 15 yr Mechanic (he bragged about his experience) I told him just wait 15 min let the car run and all the symptoms will show up… and it did!!! That 15 yr Mechanic was so arrogant and told me in 2 min after seeing all the problem that it will cost me $400. F___K U Mechanic he challenge me and he lost this is my car crazy. Obviouly I left the dealer and went to a small shop who found the problem which cost me $5 for a broken wire and offered to do a basic car maintenace job.
I don’t recall ever being lied to by a mechanic.
But why do mechanics need to diagnose for free. You don’t work for free. Find a good repair shop that you can trust.
This is how I got interested in mechanic, I would rather buy the tools and haynes manual learn to do it myself and save money.
please reveals the honest shops so people can give them more business and avoid the bad ones. Why show bad ones and not warn who they are?
It takes me 30 minutes to change my breaks why take it to a mechanic.
